about

Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7XQ_bUUL5s

I first came up with the idea of a prayer to Lord Shiva a few years ago, but it took the passing of my father, William Bell, for the song to find me. Shiva represents the duality of destruction and renewal, and the words reflect the duality of accepting loss, while struggling with the grief and pain it brings.

lyrics

Here today, and gone tomorrow
Leave the joy, embrace the sorrow
If all destroyed is made anew
Then why can’t I let go of you?

Trembling on the edge of madness
Waste away all trace of sadness
Till all you leave behind is truth
Then why can’t I let go of you?

Hare Shiva, Mahadeva
Hare Shiva Shakti
Hare Shiva, Mahadeva
Hare Shiva, help me

Tell me life is neverending
Battered heart, uncomprehending
Tell me that the soul is free
Then tell me why it still hurts me

Tell me that it’s all illusion
Let me drown in my confusion
Existence takes unearthly form
And I am left behind to mourn

Hare Shiva, Mahadeva
Hare Shiva Shakti
Hare Shiva, Mahadeva
Hare Shiva, help me
Om Mahadeva, Om Shiva Shakti
Om Mahadeva, Shiva Shakti
Om
